The Secret to Perfectly Painted Nails

Save a trip to the beauty parlour and paint your own nails with these easy tried and tested tips. Plus, it’s also friendlier to your pocket!

Always use a base coat – A clear base coat creates a barrier that helps to protect your nails from damaging effects of nail polish. Also, it gives your polished nails a more even texture.

Apply a thin coat of nail polish – When you’re painting your nails, apply three thin coats instead of one or two gloopy layers. If the layer is too thick, your polish will not dry.

Cold water dries your polish faster – Putting your fingers into ice water for two to three minutes helps your nail polish to dry faster.

Reuse your lip brush – We’ve all colored outside the lines at times. If you have an old lip brush, use it to tidy up the edges of your nails by dipping the brush into your nail polish remover and swiping it at the edges of your nails.

Start at the base – The right way of painting your nails is by starting at the base of your nail, stroke the brush to the left, then the right, and down the center. Repeat this same step for the second and third coat.

Store your nail polish in a cool place – Storing your nail polish in cool areas like your refrigerator helps the formula to last longer. Placing your nail polish under direct sunlight can alter the consistency of it.

There you have it! Your nail polishing skills at your fingertips.
