Travelling solo is for everyone. Men and women alike find the thrill in solo adventures, exploring the world by themselves. Though, in recent years, there has been an increase in women travelling alone be it for business or pleasure.
No matter what the purpose is, travelling alone is empowering and it also encourages you to discover not only a new place but also more about yourself. However, staying safe while discovering a new place is also important. Here are some tips about safety for women who travel alone.
#1: Pack light
Imagine having to drag a large four-wheeled luggage through a quiet alley. Packing light makes it easier for you to move about independently, relatively quick and there’s no need to worry about trying to get help from someone else with your luggage and so on.
#2: Spread money out
Don’t keep all your money in one place. Keep some cash with you, some in your bag and perhaps even some hidden in your luggage back in the hotel.
TIP: Find creative (and unexpected) ways to hide your cash such as in your tampon box.
#3: Give someone your itinerary
Share your travel itinerary with a family member or a close friend back home. This will give the person a general idea of your whereabouts in case they need to be in touch with you. Also, schedule a regular check-in with the person to let him or her know that you’re safe.
