Do brighter colours improve our moods for the better? Research indicates that it’s a yes! In Psychology Today, Sally Augustin, an environmental psychologist, concurs that humans are more comfortable in places with colour, with humans having emotional responses to different tones of colours.
Agreeing with psychologists, fashion experts are now advocating brighter and bolder colours to consumers. Colours ranging from bright yellows to neon pinks. There’s no such thing as too many colours on the colour spectrum. Believe it or not, there is a method to this madness.
Brighter colours are known to invoke positive and light-hearted feelings. With some claiming a touch of pink gives some much-needed confidence boost. Whereas a smidgen of yellow never failed to provide a ray of joy.
Next time, when you’re looking through your closet for an outfit, here are some of the colours you might want to consider incorporating.
| Yellow |
|---|
|
The colour yellow emanates happy and joyful vibes. If the generic yellow is a little too bright for you, fret not! You can dabble with other colours from the yellow spectrum. Don’t be shy to experiment with colours such as mustard, pastel yellow or even greenish yellow. |
| Green |
|---|
|
The greens we’re visualising here are on the brighter side, ranging from light green to cyan. Brighter tones of green are known to stimulate creative thinking and the colour green in its entirety symbolises nature and growth. |
| Pink |
|---|
When you’re looking for some much needed self-love, don’t hesitate to reach for something pink in your closet. The colour pink is not only cheerful but fashion experts and psychologists believe it opens our hearts to love not only the people around us, but ourselves too. That probably explains why most Valentine’s Day gifts are bathed in shades of pink. |
| Blue |
|---|
Feeling the Monday blues? Perhaps you might want to try on something that’s either royal blue or sky blue. Sally Augustin also pointed out that people are more likely to tell you that blue is their favourite colour. Brighter shades of blue catch the eye and invoke a sense of strength that is often related to trust (darker tones) and peace (lighter tones). |
