The brand currently offers two unique luxurious scents – Pink and Black Velvet whereby the former prides itself as extravagant and perfect for female dogs and the latter as charming for male dogs. The Velvet Alabaster product range is currently sold on its official website (velvetalabaster.com) and ships internationally including to Malaysia as well as in selected pet stores in Australia.
We speak to Joni Tham, a key person behind Velvet Alabaster to find out more about the brand and its products.
1Twenty80: What inspired the brand’s name?
Joni Tham: The name Velvet Alabaster was an inspiration from a prayer session. Even before we thought of our company name, we wanted the colour pink to be one of the main colours in our branding.
1Twenty80: Can you share with us more about the products that you have to offer?
Joni: Our luxury fine fragrances for pets are especially crafted for dogs’ fur type (canine edition). Having in mind that animals are different from humans, we specifically use plant-based ingredients that are fully biodegradable so that it is safe for dogs, humans and also the world. Velvet Alabaster uses only the best mixtures of fine fragrance oil from France to unleash the most divine scent to brand your pet’s ‘Paw-sonality’. Our products are free from harsh chemicals, artificial preservatives and colours, no paraben and heavy metals. We have countless customers who have reported that our fragrance last for three days.
1Twenty80: Are the perfumes by Velvet Alabaster safe for humans too?
Joni: Since it’s the canine edition, we highly recommend it for dogs only, but if you can’t resist, you can put it on yourself too. Rest assured that it is safe for humans too. Also, as we are aware that dogs have millions more olfactory receptors as compared to humans, we have lowered the concentration of fragrance oils used. Moreover, most research and product testing are conducted by our qualified in-house chemist to ensure the safety of the product. Our aim is to avoid fragrances that dogs are naturally repelled by. Also, just to share, our products are also lab tested by BP Food and Environment.
1Twenty80: Could you suggest to our readers, when they could use the product on their dog(s)?
Joni: We spray it on our fur baby once every day, especially after a bath, after a walk, in the car, grooming, for a party, when friends visit the house, after a rainy day and even after picking her up from pet accommodation.
1Twenty80: Can you share with us what are some of your future plans for the brand?
Joni: There will be a lot to look forward to in 2020 as we have a better understanding of our customers through feedbacks and request to craft the best products to provide the best user experience. Customers can expect a wider range of scent selection, more features to be added on top of our “dry and sensitive” edition, a natural range of luxury shampoo with matching scents to our perfumes and many more. We are also aiming for the Asian market like Taiwan and China and plans to bring it to the United States of America is in our pipeline.
