Promoting Kindness: Activities to Foster a Positive Community

Let’s encourage a supportive and enthusiastic community

By Nur Adilah

With the demands of today’s world, it’s easy to get cooped up in your own world. Connecting with others can be conveniently done digitally and filling up your free time no longer means social gatherings but instead, many are choosing to spend their time in front of a screen. Unfortunately, if this continues, the joys of living in a community will dwindle.

Living in a community with a positive environment helps us to have better relationships with people. Through the community you can learn from people’s experiences and improve your social skills too. At the same time, you meet people with the same values that help to create and encourage a more positive way of life.

Let’s get started by spreading acts of kindness. This helps us to remind ourselves to take care of our well-being and respect others as well as the environment that we live in.There are many activities that can be conducted to foster a more positive community. Need some ideas? Here are some that you can get started with!

#1 Charity races

Firstly, charity races are a good approach for people to foster a positive community. There are various focuses when organising charity races such as cancer research, mental health awareness, environmental conservation, and humanitarian aid. These races are organised to raise funds, which will then be donated to relevant organisations or individuals. The benefits of this activity are to connect and establish relationships with people who gather for good causes. Besides, it helps them to inspire themselves to be a better person and to spread awareness about the cause among their peers.

#2 Protecting wildlife

Animal lovers are welcome to help protect the wildlife in programs or tours offered. For example, the Turtle Conservation Society (TCS) provides tours that are located In Terengganu. You can discover the turtles rescued and the challenges the turtles faced. As time passes, people illegally collect and consume the river terrapin eggs. You can help to prevent the turtles from extinction by joining the tours provided. Some of the activities are releasing terrapin eggs into the river and helping to clean up the beach from plastic pollution.

#3 Encouraging healthy emotions

People volunteering at an orphaned home is also an activity that helps to build a positive environment. Some of the orphanage programs where you can volunteer are Pertubuhan Kebajikan Nurhati, Orphan Care, Care Love Welfare Foundation Malaysia. Programs are available for children to help them express their feelings without fear and allow them to grieve and cope healthily. These orphaned children can talk it out in many ways such as counseling,= art workshops, and watching performances done by the volunteering team. People who volunteered in this camp helped the children vent their feelings and live positively. Besides, the people who join the camp can create good relationships. Both sides can improve their mental and physical health by sympathising and doing things together.

#4 Neighbourhood clean-up

A simple activity to help Mother Nature is by cleaning up a park. Any community or school can create an event to clean up the parks and playgrounds in nearby places. By doing so, the community is able to strengthen their bond through good teamwork and social skills. These positive attitudes can create a healthy environment among the people who live there. A good community is able to sustain the cleanliness of the earth and helps to reduce pollution, which ultimately creates a healthier environment to live in. Thus, bringing people together to help preserve as well as foster healthier connections.

Everyone needs to know the importance of doing good to others. Not only can we help to create a better atmosphere, but we can also nurture good relationships throughout the activities with the people around us. There are countless things we can learn and remind ourselves to be grateful for every experience gained through such activities.
