It can get quite overwhelming being a working parent. At home, your kids are the priority and at work, your boss and clients dictate your day. For some working parents, it is difficult to balance their work and family responsibilities. Sometimes, things may not go your way and get frustrating. However, there are certain strategies which can help working parents gain a little more control over parts of their lives.
Share the responsibilities
It really does take a village to raise a child, so, what more children! Put the partner in ‘partnership’ by dividing and conquering what needs to be done in the household. Assign chores for each parent and this also includes small tasks like managing the nanny, household budget and also family events. Write everything down so you won’t forget and stick it somewhere very visible such as the fridge!
Not enough time
Time is very precious and this rings exceptionally true when it comes to working parents. Prioritise the things that are important to you and accept that you can’t do it all. It’s possible that you’ll need to sacrifice your hobbies but Being a working parent has its challenges but there are definitely ways to have more control over both your work and personal life you’ll be able to spend more time with your kids and be able to handle your workload better. Besides, this isn’t permanent and when the kids have grown up, you can indulge in your hobbies again!
Me time
Exercise isn’t something that you should sacrifice. Being fit and healthy ensures that you can care for your children optimally and also set a good example. Schedule weekly or twice weekly exercise nights either by yourself, with your partner, or a group of friends. Arrange for a babysitter if both you and your partner will be working out.
Work stays at work
There’s nothing that screams ‘overwhelmed working parents’ than taking work calls at home or talking to your child’s nanny at work. Be present and try your best to keep your work at the workplace and when you’re at home, avoid answering calls from the office.
No matter what, remind yourself that you are only human and there will be better days!
