There’s No Place Like Home

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The grass is always greener on the other side so when it comes to deciding where to go on vacation, we’d often look elsewhere other than home. Malaysia is home to many cultures, religions and attractions that appeal to many from all over the world.

Made up of 13 states and three Federal Territories, there are plenty to see and do in Malaysia and can range from eco-tourism and foodie trails to luxury shopping.

Here’re our suggestions on places to check out in Malaysia and perhaps on your next vacation, a roadtrip would be in order!

Kuala Lumpur also known by the locals as ‘KL’ is the capital of Malaysia and its main attraction is the Petronas Twin Towers (shown above) with 88 floors and are the tallest twin towers in the world. Suria KLCC is the retail centre at the base of the Twin Towers and is one of the largest shopping malls in Malaysia with mostly foreign luxury goods, a philharmonic theatre, underwater aquarium and science centre.

Kuala Terengganu is home to the Terengganu Islamic Heritage Park Mosques Inscription Stone, the oldest artefact with Jawi writing in Malaysia, housed in the Terengganu State Museum. Nearby is the Islamic Heritage Park which showcases replicas of famous mosques from all over the world. Chinatown of Kuala Terengganu has shophouses from the pre-war era and some even date back to the 1700s. A must try is keropok lekor, a deep-fried fish cracker.

If sun and sand is something you prefer, not far from Kuala Terengganu is Redang Island, one of the largest islands off the east coast of West Malaysia. With its myriad of beachside resorts, it is the perfect place for activities such as scuba diving and snorkelling or just lazing about on the beach.

Georgetown is the capital of Penang island that’s known for its modern city complete with skyscrapers and shopping malls along with ornate places of worship. Check out the food stalls at Gurney Drive for a taste of Penang or check out places like the Kek Lok Si temple that’s one of the largest Buddhist temples Kek Lok Si Temple in Malaysia.

Kundasang is a town located in Ranau, a district of Sabah. Located at an elevation of almost 1900m, it is the highest settlement in Malaysia and it’s located around 6 kilometres away from Kinabalu National Park. It is well known for the vegetable wholesalers and Kundasang War Memorial and Gardens in memory of the 2428 Australian and British prisoners who died during World War 2 at the Sandakan POW Camp.

Desa Cattle Dairy Farm is also a notable place to visit because it is where most of Sabah’s cow milk and dairy products are produced!

The Gunung Mulu National Park is located in Miri, Sarawak ,the biggest Malaysian state. It is known for its peaks and huge bat-filled caves. The Sarawak Chamber, located in Gua Nasib Bagus is the largest known natural chamber or room in the world and could accommodate around 40 Boeing 747 without overlapping their wings. The Deer Cave is one of the world’s largest single cave passages. This national park is home to a few species of hornbills, bats, deer, sun bears and Gunung Mulu National Park amphibians.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
