Happiness in Every Meow & Woof

Pets are part of the family, a loved one to many. Just like a much loved child, many pet owners would go to the ends of the earth to give their pets the best to ensure that they live a happy and comfortable life including feeding them the best.

Though, the question is – how is quality pet food defined?

Quality versus Quantity

An economical instinct for most individuals when contemplating on which product to purchase, is to opt for the option that’s makes the most out of your money’s worth. In most cases, people would usually compare the price against the amount that you’re getting.

Though, there is one important factor that should be above all and that would be the ingredients that the product is made out of. After all, you wouldn’t want to be spending on rubbish.

Just like reading the nutrition label on a food product, pet owners are encouraged to read the ingredient label when deciding on your pet food purchase.

Here’s a simple guide on what to look out for as well as to avoid:

Say “Yay!” if your pet food has:

  • Real protein
  • Minerals and vitamins
  • Healthy fats

Say “Nay!” if your pet food has:

  • Colouring
  • Added salt
  • Added sugar
  • Harmful additives
  • Carbohydrate fillers

You are what you eat and this applies to your pet too! Providing your pet with a diet that suits their nature helps them to stay healthy inside and out. Yes, that would mean a healthy coat of fur too!

In many forms

Kibbles are one of the most popular form of pet food. This dry and longlasting option is conventional but some of its options are questionable. Kibbles are presented and sold in as bite-sized dry food. Although they look similar, this does not mean that the ingredients it consists of are the same across all brands.

While the manufacturer may mention that the kibbles consist of quality ingredients, the more important factor is the percentage of quality ingredients it contains. For some kibbles, animal by-products and other unfavourable ingredients are mixed in which adversely affects the quality of the pet food.

Hence, pet owners are now turning to other forms of pet food. While some choose to personally cook for their pets, busy pet owners who are searching for yet another convenient and long-lasting option are turning to freeze-dried food.

It’s no surprise that this new form of pet food is rising in popularity across the globe. Freeze-drying is a technique used to preserve raw ingredients. Fresh meat for instance when freeze-dried, goes through minimal processing during production. Hence, retaining the ingredient’s nutritional value as well as taste, making it a win-win for both humans and pets.

A happy pet equates to a happy pet owner. While pets enjoy the simplicity of life, there’s no doubt that a bowl (or two) of quality food daily would have your cat purring or dog’s tail wagging.

Putting it to the test

I had the opportunity to feed my pets with some of the market’s finest. The OzPro range of products consists of various freeze-dried meats including (but not limited to) chicken, venison, salmon, ostrich and quail.

I was told that the founders of OzPro®, searched near and far for the best quality products for their pets and it was during this journey that sparked the idea to produce their very own range. A range of pet food products that would meet the quality and standards that they themselves as pet owners, would feed to their cats and dogs without a doubt.

The options available cater to a wide range of taste buds. My cats and dog are fussy eaters. True to their nature, they enjoy meat but it was interesting to see how each animal had their preferred option.

My dog absolutely enjoyed the Holistic Beef Salmon while my cats’ favourite was the whole quail. You read it right, whole quail, freeze-dried to ensure that our pets benefit from the nutrients in the ingredient. While it made me feel a little queasy opening the pack, it was truly satisfying seeing them enjoy every bite of it!

As a pet owner, I was amazed at how well my pets ate their food when the product was included into their bowls. Plus, they’re conveniently packaged and lightweight. Hence, making storage much easier. Also, they make great treats too!
