Your 2024 Recap

Reflecting on the year gone by, let’s celebrate your wellness wins

By Siti Salihah

From ‘bed rotting’ to digital detox, we’ve all experienced our fair share of health epiphanies this year. As we took stock of our health, many of us found new ways to prioritise mental well-being, from having more open conversations about mental health to creating better work-life balance. Alongside this, trends like mindful eating, prioritising sleep, and fostering meaningful connections have emerged as guiding principles for living better. These shifts have led us towards more intentional and holistic ways of caring for ourselves.

The social media impact

This year, social media has been a double-edged sword—on one hand, it can amplify unrealistic beauty standards or wellness trends, but on the other, it’s become a vital space for advocating mental health as well as healthier eating. Social media have given rise to conversations around mental health and self-care, with many users sharing their stories of struggle, recovery, and progress. Professionals too have taken advantage of the space to share their knowledge. These platforms have become spaces where people not only find support and connection but also take that brave first step towards getting the help they need.

The impact of social media goes beyond just mental health conversations. It’s also where trends like mindful eating, prioritising sleep, and digital detoxes have taken root. While some of these trends may feel fleeting and fady, they’ve sparked a larger cultural shift, influencing how we view wellness and encouraging a more holistic approach to selfcare. Social media, for better or worse, has been key in shaping these conversations, guiding people towards healthier habits—whether through a viral wellness trend or a real moment of connection.

A shift in perspective

We’ve also seen more people taking their health into their own hands, shifting the focus from quick fixes to lasting lifestyle changes. People are embracing slow mornings, prioritising mental clarity, and finding balance amidst the chaos of daily life. It’s no longer just about hitting the gym or eating clean—wellness has become about feeling whole, inside and out. More people are realising that true health isn’t about perfection, but about taking small, consistent steps towards better living.

Bingo to a better you

Wellness isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s personal, always evolving, and—most importantly—fun. Ready for a quick challenge? Let’s dive into this bingo to see what you’ve intentionally (or unintentionally) ticked off this year—and perhaps find some inspiration for the year ahead!

If you’re a competitive person and haven’t quite ‘won’ this bingo game, don’t stress! Think of this as a guide to all the possibilities still waiting for you, not a rigid checklist. Remember, it’s the journey that counts, not the outcome. (Of course, we all want the best outcome for you, which is to be healthy.) With a whole month still ahead, there’s plenty of time to discover even more self-care practices—whether or not they’re on this bingo card!
