- Breast milk boosts your baby’s immune system and it reduces the risk of certain diseases during adulthood.
- Lactating releases oxytocin which induces a sense of relaxation.
- Your baby can take between five to 40 minutes (sometimes it might be longer) to nurse.
- Breastfeeding reduces the mother’s risk of breast and ovarian cancer, heart disease and osteoporosis.
- Your brain uses 20 percent of your body’s energy and breast milk production uses 25 percent.
- Breast milk’s nutritional value changes as your baby grows.
- Breast milk produced at the end of a nursing session (hindmilk) is creamier and thicker.
