The Body, Mind & Soul Connection

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]With 16 years of practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine and 11 years of body, mind and soul; professional psychologist and Traditional Chinese Medicine expert, Dr. Loo Kien Hiong shares his knowledge about addressing mental health issues from a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective.

Can you share with us briefly about your background?

Dr. Loo Kien Hiong: For 20 years, I was part of a multinational cooperation in the health industry. I reached a crossroad in life and there, I made the decision to take charge of my career path.

I was walking along Old Klang Road one day and I stumbled upon a Traditional Chinese Medicine college. I enquired and the lecturer gave me permission to sit in for a class. That was a life changing moment for me and I decided that this was what I wanted to do. I enrolled for the course and I decided to tender my resignation for the company I was working for.

Besides Traditional Chinese Medicine, are there other areas that you specialise in?

Dr. Loo: Besides TCM, I also focus on the body, mind and soul connection and therapy such as aromatherapy and tea therapy. I also conduct corporate trainings.

Can you share with us more about how you apply aromatherapy and tea therapy in your healing method?

Dr. Loo: Tea therapy is a natural healing method that’s uniquely practised only in this centre. During tea therapy, the healer (or the doctor) collects the chi (energy) from the tea and channels it into the body through a person’s meridian channel. The meridian channel is also known as the energy channel.

In TCM, every organ is connected through the meridian channel. There are several negative factors that can affect the health of your organs and we can address the issue through this main channel.

What are some of the factors that could cause illnesses?

Dr. Loo: Negative energy from external factors such as hatred, sadness, depression and also negative energy from internal factors such as heatiness, humidity and wind are believed to be linked to medical illnesses.

What is the difference between tea therapy and aromatherapy?

Dr. Loo: Tea therapy and aromatherapy serves the same purpose. Through these healing methods, the doctor is able to release negative energy from an individual.

The concept of these therapies is similar to acupuncture. In acupuncture, the doctor uses needles that will be placed at specific points of the body to open up existing blockages.

Acupuncture is an ancient practice that has been practiced for thousands of years. Aromatherapy and tea therapy on the other hand are more modern therapies that’s being practiced.

How widely practiced are these modern therapies?

Dr. Loo: Tea as a form of art and healing has been practiced by tea enthusiasts. These people find peace when drinking tea and it is like a form of meditation. Tea lovers may or may not realise it but they enjoy tea probably because of its chi.

Tea therapy on the other hand is rare. This therapy was invented by me, based on my years of experience.

Is it true that the body, mind and soul is connected?

Dr. Loo: Yes, the body, mind and soul is interrelated. It is a whole system and should not be treated individually. As a matter of fact, these three factors influence each other very much.

For example, if there is an issue with your bone structure, this presses on your nerves and your nerves are connected internally and this could cause a health issue. There are symptoms connected to an underlying medical issue in your body and this is something that TCM teaches us.

For example, hair loss is linked to weak kidneys  and phlegm in the body could be caused by wind. Based on your external.

Also, a lot of medical conditions are caused by emotions and stress. For example, the stress of living, relationship issues and even negativity

What is your message to individuals with regards to stress?

Dr. Loo: My message is to have an open mind. Allow people to help you and do not let pride get in your way of seeking help. Pride is not something of value but your health is. If you lose your body, you lose everything.

The body is your wealth, not your money. Your health should be your priority, when you have a healthy body, you have a chance in life.

Congratulations!

Dr. Loo was awarded the 1st Malaysia TCM Golden Award 2018 by the Federation of Chinese Physicians and Acupuncturists Associations Malaysia (FCPAAM).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
