The power of locking lips

We know that apart from hugging, kissing has always been an act of social pleasantry, a potential way to end a date night and of course; it’s also the most primal way to express affection to our partners. The collision of the lips and tongues are often known as means of love and affection.

While kissing can make you feel oh-so-good, it also has plenty of health benefits that you probably didn’t know about!

#1 Trigger happy hormones

Kissing triggers your brain to release a bunch of chemicals that gives you the excitement and pleasure of being kissed. You know that amazing feeling when someone you love kisses you back? That’s the effect of dopamine in your brain reacting to the pleasure from the kiss.

This simple act of love doesn’t just make you and your partner feel alive, but it also has a tangible effect on your self-esteem. On top of boosting your happy hormones, kissing helps to reduce cortisol levels in the body (stress hormone) and promotes positive energy within the both of you.

#2 Burn calories while making love

Everything starts with a kiss and you cannot deny that a kiss acts as a glorious gateway to an exciting excursion which leads you into the world of lovemaking. A really good smooch brings out the sexual pleasures that you would want to feel together with your partner.

According to Bryant Stamford, a professor from University of Louisville, he said that sex can help burn calories. To add on, a study that was published in Public Library of Science One (PLOS ONE) “Energy Expenditure during Sexual Activity in Young Healthy Couples” mentioned that men burn about 4.2 calories per minutes while women burn about 3.1 calories during sex. Even if your sex life doesn’t burn a lot of calories, it is still great for you as it can improve your mood and make you and your partner or spouse feel better.

#3 Kiss and strengthen your relationship

Oxytocin, a peptide hormone in your body is released when you kiss and develops a feeling of affection. Apart from all the euphoric feeling you get when you kiss your partner, it also helps to improve and strengthen the bond in your relationship. This could even result in a more satisfying connection.

Stop thinking about your to-do list while you’re kissing, instead be in the moment and experience all the build up sensations. By doing so, you’re allowing yourself to be happy with your partner as well as getting rid of all the stress you’ve had from the hectic day.

#4 Kissing is good for the heart

Kissing increases your heart rate that then dilates your blood vessels, which helps to lower your blood pressure. When your blood vessels expand, your blood flow increases, allowing it to flow easily and cause an immediate decrease in blood pressure. Therefore, kissing is good for the heart. So if you ever feel stressful, get your partner to kiss you passionately.

Give your loved one a big smooch!

The bottom line, kissing is a great way to be happy, healthy and feel good about yourself. So kiss often, it’s good for you! However, if you’re ever someone who loves to lock-lips, then don’t forget to practice oral hygiene for a fresh-worthy kiss!
