So, when he had symptoms of the flu, he did not think much of it. However, as it progressed, he made the decision to go for a Covid-19 swab test and three days later, he received a call from the district health office that informed him that he was tested positive for Covid-19. Kevin shares with us on this recent ordeal and how his decision to never take things for granted spared his loved ones from being infected.

I thought it was just a mild fever and headache at first. However in this sensitive pandemic period, I decided to still quarantine myself from the first day I had all these symptoms to ensure minimal contact with my family. Therefore, I went to the health clinic near to my house to do a swab test as an assurance.[/info_list_item][info_list_item list_title=”1Twenty80: What was the timeline like from the time you had symptoms to the time you were diagnosed? ” list_icon=”Defaults-comments” animation=”fadeInUp”]Kevin: It took around 6 days from the day I had symptoms to the time I was diagnosed. For the first two days, I experienced mild fever, and I visited a doctor near to where I live. The doctor treated my illness as the common flu and therefore I was prescribed with medicines to alleviate the symptoms, such as antibiotics.
Following my visit to the doctor, I decided to self-quarantine as a precaution. I ate all meals in my own room during these two days to minimise contact with my family. On the third day, I recovered from the fever and I felt great. However, I realised that I lost the ability to taste and smell. I did a swab test as an assurance on the same day and at the point of testing, I was still convinced that I did not contract the disease. On the forth day, I went back to the doctor to address my concern on not being able to taste and smell. The doctor said the antibiotics prescribed were very strong and potent. Therefore, it killed all the good and bad bacteria in my body, which made me unable to taste or smell. The reassurance from the doctor convinced me that I was not infected by Covid-19 but somehow on the fifth day, I started to feel tired and unwell again, which was very unusual to me. At night, I developed a fever and I knew something was not right. On the seventh day, the team at the health clinic notified me that I tested positive for Covid-19.[/info_list_item][/info_list][vc_custom_heading text=”“Following the visit to the doctor, I started to self-quarantine as a precaution. On a personal level, I have been wearing masks and following the SOPs mandated by the Ministry of Health at all times. I would say that it was really out of my expectations to be diagnosed as being infected by the virus. Aside from that, I was worried that it might have spread to the people around me especially my parents. Older people don’t have as strong an immune system so they are more vulnerable to infectious diseases. Plus, unlike any other disease, they would be quarantined if they caught it and I would be able to stay by their side to take care of them.[/info_list_item][info_list_item list_title=”1Twenty80: What happened after you found out that you were tested positive?” list_icon=”Defaults-comments” animation=”fadeInUp”]Kevin: I immediately contacted my manager and shared my test results across. As a preventive measure, my company ceased operations and closed down immediately to carry out disinfection work. Then, I contacted my family and friends whom I have close contact with for the past few days and they were appointed to go for a swab test at the nearest health clinic. On the same day, I was sent to a quarantine centre in Hospital Sungai Buloh for further monitoring. I’m glad that my close contacts were tested negative for Covid-19 but they have to be quarantined for two weeks at home.[/info_list_item][info_list_item list_title=”1Twenty80: How does it feel like to be treated in an isolation ward?” list_icon=”Defaults-comments” animation=”fadeInUp”]Kevin: It was a whole new experience to me, as I have never been hospitalised before. As I was experiencing only slight symptoms, I was still able to read books and watch movies to entertain myself because we are not allowed to step out of the ward. Most of the patients were alright based on my observation, apart from one that was seriously ill. He slept on his own bed throughout the day and constantly told the medical staff he suffered pain in his chest. The staff used some medical devices to help him but he was sent to another ward shortly for further treatment. Our temperature and blood pressure were measured a few times in a day and the results were monitored by the doctor to make sure that we are fine. Also, X-Ray screenings were conducted if necessary.[/info_list_item][/info_list][vc_custom_heading text=”“The first thought that crossed my mind was – “Where did I catch the virus?”” font_container=”tag:h5|text_align:center|color:%23ed1c24″ google_fonts=”font_family:Montserrat%3Aregular%2C700|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal” css_animation=”appear”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”10709″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″ css=”.vc_custom_1602667248327{margin-top: 3% !important;padding-right: 20px !important;padding-left: 0px !important;}”][info_list font_size_icon=”24″ eg_br_width=”1″ connector_animation=”fadeInUp”][info_list_item list_title=”1Twenty80: What were the changes you felt in your body?” list_icon=”Defaults-comments” animation=”fadeInUp”]Kevin: There weren’t any major changes that I felt as I had mild symptoms.
